Eastham To Partington Aboard Stolt Cormorant (35 images)
On the 04/07/07 I was invited to take a trip aboard Stolt Nielsen's vessel Stolt Cormorant when she visited the canal. The journey shows various locations taken from the bridge all the way from Eastham to Partington oil basin. Many thanks to Niels Grotz at SNTG as well as the master and pilots aboard for an enjoyable trip.
    River Mersey Shipping (80 images)
Photographs on the River Mersey, mostly around New Brighton, Seacombe and Woodside.
    Mersey Tugs (31 images)
Photographs of the Liverpool based Svitzer, Adsteam (Smit) tugs. I only have a 210mm lense so they usually have to come close up to me to get decent shots of them.
Liverpool / Birkenhead Docks (77 images)
Photographs mostly taken around the Birkenhead dock systems with one or two at Liverpool docks.
River Mersey - Eastham Channel (54 images)
This selection of photos are taken midway between Eastham & Bromborough at Jobs ferry which offers a slightly more elevated vantage point instead of the more usual Eastham angles.
River Mersey - Eastham Ferry (105 images)
Photographs of the river Mersey around Eastham Ferry near the start of the ship canal, probably the closest point to photograph ships in the river.
Manchester Ship Canal - Eastham (68 images)
Photographs of the ship canal around Eastham locks & the adjoining QE2 dock.
Manchester Ship Canal - Ellesmere Port (69 images)
Photographs of the Manchester ship canal around Ellesmere Port. Ellesmere Port is still quite open for photography in the afternoon besides the boat museum.

Photographs of the Manchester ship canal around Runcorn, Old Quay, Weston Point and Frodsham Marshes.
Manchester Ship Canal - Warrington (130 images)

Manchester Ship Canal - Manchester (54 images)
Photographs of the Manchester ship canal around Trafford, Salford quays and Barton.
Manchester Ship Canal Miscellany (56 images)
This collected depicts a lot of the ship canal's original character which includes infastructure, renovation, deriliction as well as anything else that is worthy of recording. Some of these shots could look a whole lot different in years to come as we go into the 'modern' peel holdings era of the canal.
Manchester Ship Canal Vessels (42 images)
Photographs of Manchester ship canal's ever shrinking fleet. The four 'V class' tugs owned by Carmet towing mainly work between Eastham & Stanlow. However shots of the ship canal's maintenance fleet are harder to come by hence the small selection!
    River Weaver Navigation (50 images)
A seclection of the River Weaver navigation as well as the old river at Frodsham. The only vessel worthy of interest is the old barge Panary still trading to Frodsham viaduct quay. Pleasure craft dominate the navigation up to Northwich nowadays which is a shame because there are endless photographic possibilities along this delightful waterway.
    Other UK Ports (41 images)
Photographs taken around other UK ports ports & locations.

Manchester Ship Canal Railway (38 images)
A view showing whats remaining of the Manchester ship canal railway. Once the largest privately owned railway network in the country, now trains only run on a daily basis between Trafford park & Barton container terminal. Most of the railway lines have long gone with little remains however much of the trackwork still exists around Ellesmere Port & Eastham albeit in poor condition.
    Australasia (20 images)
Photographs from visits to the Australian ports of Adelaide, Melbourne, Portland, various around Sydney harbour and Singapore.
    Welcome
Welcome to Ship canal / Mersey photographs by John Eyres.

This website focuses on vessels using the Manchester ship canal & river Mersey from around 1996 to mainly present day.

I have tried to vary the different types of shipping as much as possible but as certain areas have been photographed extensively most of the photographs from my collection published here are selected on quality first & foremost.

Please check the latest photographs for regular updates

I also publish any useful 'gen' i may receive about ships heading to the upper parts of the canal in the box to the left

There are also galleries from different parts of the country. Also check out my railway photographs on the link below.

I shoot with both a digital Canon 400D or a Mamiya 645 medium format slides with Fuji Velvia 100F film.

Feel free to comment on any of the photographs. Hope they are of interest. Thanks for looking!
